Description
This activity keeps you abreast of current diagnostic knowledge by focusing on invasive urothelial carcinomas and other major urinary tract carcinomas that can affect the bladder, prostate, and upper urinary tract.

In addition, the activity highlights key diagnostic features associated with squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma that can also occur in the urinary tract. A comprehensive overview of invasive urothelial carcinoma and its subtypes, as well as distinguishing urothelial carcinoma from squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the bladder, and relevant staging topics will be discussed.

This activity was presented at the 2023 CAP Pathology in the Islands as part of the activity Practical Approach of the Classification and Staging of Invasive Urothelial Carcinoma.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Recognize urothelial carcinoma subtypes (variants) that may alter clinical management.
  2. Distinguish urothelial carcinoma with divergent differentiation from squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
  3. Utilize appropriate staging criteria for urothelial carcinoma in the bladder, prostate, and upper urinary tract.
