Description
This activity reviews the diagnostic criteria and the clinical significance of various benign, in situ, and malignant papillary lesions of the breast in both core needle biopsy specimens and surgical excision specimens. In addition, the uses and limitations of immunohistochemistry in resolving diagnostic problems in papillary lesions of the breast will be discussed.

This activity was originally presented at Pathology in the Park in 2022.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Develop strategies for reporting papillary carcinomas.
  2. Learn how best to differentiate benign from atypical papillary lesions.
  3. Understand how and when to use immunostains to help resolve challenging papillary lesions.
