Description
In this day-in-the-life activity, you will take on the role of laboratory medical director and face several challenges. In each situation, you will decide how to proceed based on the CLIA and the CAP Standards of Laboratory Accreditation. Your journey will include making decisions on delegating tasks, performing proficiency testing, selecting new instruments, providing clinical consultation, and adhering to workload requirements. It will prepare you to perform the everyday tasks necessary for continuously complying with federal regulations and obtaining accreditation.

The activity includes an optional pretest that gauges your current knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements and directs you to the content in which you may want to spend more time. It also includes a 10-question assessment.

  1. Describe the impact of regulatory oversight on laboratory testing.
  2. List the laboratory medical director responsibilities for ensuring that testing systems provide quality services in all aspects of test performance.
