Description
This activity features five challenging cases in which you will use whole slide images of noncervicovaginal cytologic materials to identify normal and abnormal cellular changes. These cases were chosen for their challenging diagnoses and are unique from the slidesets the CAP sent to the laboratories for education practice or proficiency testing.

You will be presented with information on each case including clinical history, specimen source information, test results and other ancillary testing data, and a corresponding whole slide image. After you complete each case, you will be presented with three multiple-choice questions that relate to the correct diagnosis of the case and patient care.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Interpret an nongynecologic cytopathology (NGC) case and formulate a reasonable differential diagnosis using patient history, clinical information, ancillary studies, and morphology.
  2. Select appropriate ancillary studies for an NGC case.
  3. Recognize the limitations of NGC when results of appropriate ancillary studies are noncontributory.
