Description
This activity features five challenging cases in which you will view whole slide images of nongynecological fine-needle aspirations (FNAs) to identify normal and abnormal cellular changes. You will be presented with information on each case including clinical history, specimen source information, laboratory findings and other ancillary testing data, and a corresponding whole slide image. After you diagnose each case, you will be presented with three multiple-choice questions that relate to the correct diagnosis of the case and contain additional diagnostic information.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Interpret an FNA case and formulate a reasonable differential diagnosis using patient history, clinical information, ancillary studies, and morphology.
  2. Select appropriate ancillary studies for an FNA case.
  3. Recognize the limitations of FNA when results of appropriate ancillary studies are noncontributory.
