Description
Cybercrime is an ever present and increasing threat to laboratory operations. Having good awareness of various threats that can impact the lab and taking preventive measures to protect systems, equipment, and data are important activities for pathologists. This activity will use details from an actual cyberattack on a lab to share best practices that will help pathologists in both private and academic work settings be proactive in preparing the laboratory for these threats.

Objectives
After completing this activity, you should be able to:

  1. Identify the impact of pathology and laboratory medicine services during a prolonged system outage.
  2. Identify critical operational features to assess the laboratory’s readiness for a prolonged system outage.
